Adam Arkin is best known as an American television and stage actor and is also well-known for his directorial ventures. He has been nominated for various awards such as Primetime Emmy’s, SAG Awards and Daytime Emmy’s. Best known for his role as Aaron Shutt in ‘Chicago Hope’, Arkin is also one of the three actors who portrayed ‘Dale, “The Whale” Beiderbeck’ on the popular television series, ‘Monk’. He was also seen doing a cameo as gang leader in the television series ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and starred on NBC channel’s show, ‘Life’.

Early Life & Career

Born to Oscar winning actor/director Alan Arkin and Jeremy Yaffe, Adam was born on August 19, 1956 in Brooklyn, New York. Arkin began his acting/directing career in college where he wrote and staged many of his own plays and even performed in front of large audiences. He slowly began to appear in various television series such as ‘Northern Exposure’, ‘Chicago Hope’ and played a cameo in two episodes of ‘Law and Order’. Other television appearances include the ‘West Wing’ as a trauma specialist and ‘8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter’ in 2002. He was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in the hit comedy series, ‘Boston Legal’, ‘Monk’ and ‘Baby Bob’. As of 2007, he starred in a reality drama series on NBC called ‘Life’ and played the role of ‘Ted Earley’. One of his most recent appearances was in 2011 in ‘The Closer’ episode and as mob boss in a series called ‘Justified’. Apart from his television career, Arkin also did guest appearances in several films and Broadway gigs such as ‘Hitch’, ‘Brooklyn Boy’ and ‘Halloween H20: 20 Years Later’. In addition to his acting career, Arkin has directed several episodes of famous shows such as ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘The Riches’, ‘Dirt’ and ‘Boston Legal’.
Adam Arkin married Linda early during the early stages of his career. He then married Phyllis Anne Lyon in 1999. He has a son from his second marriage and a daughter from the first.
