Chetan Bhagat is a famous Indian author who penned some blockbuster novels which struck the market with great success. All of them were bestsellers since their release and have been filmed by Famous Bollywood directors. Chetan Bhagat is considered as a youth icon rather than as just an author. With his vivid and humorous way of depicting stories, he has inspired reading habit in young Indians. He is also a good columnist writing many columns in leading newspapers. According to him, novels are entertainment tools while he expresses his views and opinion about the society, youth and the development issues nation through the columns. His columns are written in a way that directly points out the issues within our country and in many times it have been triggered discussions in the parliament. He is not only a good writer but also a motivational speaker and gives motivational speeches in many leading MNC’s and leading institutions.
Chetan Bhagat was born in New Delhi in a middle class Punjabi Family on the 22nd day of April in 1974. His father was an army person and his mother, a government employee. Major portion of his education was done at Delhi. He was enrolled in Army Public School Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi during the year 1978–1991 after which he selected Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. After pursuing engineering he got enrolled in Management program offered at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad. Being an outstanding student, it is no wonder that he was recognized as became the "The Best Outgoing Student" by IIM Ahmadabad. He got married to Anusha Suryanarayanan in 1998, who was his fellow student in IIM. He went to Hong Kong along with his family and worked as an investment banker with the famous Goldman Sachs there. He worked in Hong Kong for 11 years and then shifted to Mumbai and then started writing which was his passion. He had written four Novels namely Five Point Someone (2004), One Night @ the Call Center (2005), The 3 Mistakes of my life (2008) & 2 States (2009) and all of them turned out to be best sellers. By chance or by choice, titles of all his novels had numbers associated with them. He now leads a happy life with his wife and twin sons Ishaan and Shyam. Chetan loves to live a simple life watching cartoons with his children who wish to become super heroes. He is a health conscious person and practices yoga regularly.
Chetan Bhagat published his first novel first novel Five Point Someone in 2004 and this very first venture took him to the peaks of fame and popularity. The book depicted the story of an IIT student who considers himself to be below average than all other students in IIT. This book won the Society Young Achiever’s Award and Publisher’s Recognition Award. This story is adopted into a film directed by Rajkumar Hirani and fomous Bollywood stars like Aamir Khan, Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor. His second book was One Night @ a Call Center and this too was a great success. This book also turned up as a Bollywood movie named Hello and Chetan himself wrote the script. The movie was noted by the special appearance of Bollywood star Salman Khan and was an average hit. His next novel has Cricket as the major theme. It is named as Three Mistakes of My Life. His fourth book is named as ‘Two States’.
Chetan Bhagat’s contribution to the field of entertainment is worth noticeable. He never confined his literary talents to just writing novels. As a responsible social person, he writes columns in newspapers citing various social and national issues and many of them were noticed by parliamentarians and triggered serious discussions in the Indian parliaments. He has always addressed issues like corruption by sending an open letter to Sonia Gandhi and also has spoken about the political issues like Baba Ramdev issues.
